How much wear is to much

I have a crank from a car and the rod bearing has turned and is about 2" diameter it has wore .010 away is this to much and if not what is the maximum diameter in thousandth of an inch that can wear off so that the crank can not be reground?

I do have another crank that is in better shape but it has a slight grove wore in wear the rear seal rides and my crank uses the rope type seal with all those diagonal lines stamped in. I would like to use a rope seal but if the crank surface is smooth without those small lines stamped in would this still work?

Re: How much wear is to much

The only person who can answer that is the machinist after he checks the crank. Hopefully you can offer up more info as to what you're working on. But in my opinion 0.010" sound excessive for most crankshafts.

Most cranks can be undersized to .030, if bearings are available of course. Not seeing this groove your machinist can tell moe than we can.

Duh... my mistake. Not only did I read it wrong, I quoted it wrong. I missed the '.0'
