94 dodge grand caravan 3.8 l
Hi.
1994 DGC with AWD 3.8 l - V6 Periodically it will suddenly lose power, sputter, back fire under the hood until I gun it then it takes off. Sometimes it will surge forward all by itself. If I run it fast for a few seconds it is fine other times not. If I turn it off for 2 minutes or so it will often run well for the remainder of the trip. When on the highway it will mis-fire so you think it needs a wheel alignment then will smooth out and run smooth for a while. This is not an OBD2 vehicle (which is a royal pain in the-----rear end..;-) The codes are 21, O2 sensor 24, TPS 32, EGR Also the exhaust smells strange when this is happening, not strong of gas though sometimes yes. I changed all the plugs and wire, = vast overall improvement. Changed the TPS = no improvement. I have the O2 sensor which I will put in once I find the @#$&^ socket and have the EGR valve on order. Also will be changing all vacuum lines just cause this is an older vehicle and the previous owner never serviced anything until it was broken. You should have seen the plugs..Which showed signs of heat damage. I see in this and other forums that similar problems with this model are common. Anyone have another idea or better,... something that worked well for them? Thanks. P/S I got so used to seeing it that I forgot to mention the "Check Engine Light". Comes on after a few minutes of driving and usually shortly after the ADS brake light comes on. The other day I was just sitting with it idling and suddenly the revs would drop so low that I thought it would stall with the light coming on. 2 / 3 seconds later the revs would correct and the light went out only for it to happen a gain 3 times then stopped and has never repeated. Weird. Last edited by mxlplx; 08-10-2015 at 08:01 PM. Reason: Forgot something. |
