Re: 97 TAHOE 5.7L VORTEC WON'T START...GM Merlin ideas?

GM Merlin is looking down on us now ,he has passed away..

your issue was the ECT sensor was open .. when that happens the pcm thinks the air/engine temp is -40 deg F.. then the injectors open way too long and the engine will flood...

this problem many times is the connector to the sensor also... if you get miss fires etc the distributor is a common wear failure due to the bearing causing the rotor to wobble @175K miles..

if you purchased a new GM truck the engine will be dead around 120K miles.. run it into the ground new is not better................good luck.

When you installed the distributor did you mark the rotor against the side so it was installed the same way. If you put the engine with the no.1 piston on compression stroke stroke you maybe 180 degrees out of time I've missed before.

Re: 97 TAHOE 5.7L VORTEC WON'T START...GM Merlin ideas?

Are you saying it starts, and immediately stalls?

It's possible you have a security problem.......

What I would do is, get a can of carb cleaner, and attach the red nozzle tube.....remove the intake air temp sensor, and let it hang outside the snorkle...sti k the tube into the opening and plug the opening with a rag(we don't want any air leaks to affect the MAF readings....have someone cranmk over the vehicle.......now spray the carb cleaner into the snorkle....if the car runs as long as you spray, then we know it's a fuel delivery problem......either no fuel pressure, or the security system is shutting down the injectors......

Have you put a gage on this to check fuel pressure?
