2005 Pontiac wave Bad fuel economy!

I have a 2005 pontiac wave (hatchback) it's my first car , and i've noticed it is HORRIBLE on gas I'm currently getting about 250Km/tank (45L) I don't know what's wrong with the car, it's not leaking and it runs great otherwise.... Any ideas on how to improve my gas efficiency would be awesome, or even just a reason why... Because as far as I understand I should be getting at least double that. The mechanics arn't sure either, any advice helps... thanks

Yes, that's roughly 13 miles per gallon.....

So the car runs fine? No misfires? OK, on acceleration?

Scanned for codes?

Mileage? Any maintenance done?

Manual/automatic?

It's an automatic, has a crack in the housing for the air filter, but it is minor...
I also changed my spark plugs and the 3rd one was dripping in oil- Still not resolved as to where it came from, but it hasn't come back...But it runs like a dream for a first car, no problems and general maintenance- everything got checked out before I bought it... I just can't figure out why it has such poor fuel economy, has 230,000km but has been taken into the shop to get serviced every 80,000-100,000km

Fuel efficiency is important for any vehicle and I can understand how serious you are in improving the gas efficiency in your car. From my view, regular maintenance itself help your car to get better fuel efficiency. If you are driving in high speed always use high gears, lower gears can burn almost 50 % more gas than necessary. Try to use cruise control in highway driving and that can help you for better fuel saving. If you like to know more on fuel efficiency you can check this blog (http://www.serviceplus416.com/driving-tips/how-to-improve-your-cars-fuel-efficiency-quick-tips-for-better-mileage/ ). I hope this will help you to find a solution.
