To me, kit building is the challenge of doing something new, not just making another car in red instead of blue!
PLEASE enlighten me into the black arts of doing the same thing ten times over....... At the end of the day, even though the finished article might look a bit different, in terms of building the whole kit, most of it is the same thing......
Tedious and repetetive, or what??????
It strikes me as not so much kit building, as a bit of 'O.C.D'.... (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder)
Am I missing something?

Roy.
Well for me i have a bunch of the same kits because i plan on building different variations of that car. Like for instance the Mk IV golf/gti i plan on making a few in 2 doors variations. The kit that is offered only comes in 2 door. Also plan on making the 20th anniversary of that kit which includes different sideskirts, front and back valances. As for the rally golf i plan on building different rally liveries. Like freakray stated that includes building different exterior and interior mods to make it as close as possible to the 1:1. It also helps have mutiple kits if anything goes wrong in the building process. But for many modellers its the love and passion for that perticular car. So they do want to build them in different colors even though a little repetitive.

BTW I plan on getting 4-5 fujimi porsche gt3s due to the gt3s having so many beautiful different racing liveries. For instance the flying lizards. IMO

Re: Some of your rarest kits?

I build multiple of the same in search of perfection.
Something always goes wrong no matter how careful I am but one day, when the stars align and the constellations all smile upon me...

Anyway, was there any need to be so dismissive and downright rude about how some people like to build model kits?

Re: Some of your rarest kits?

This is a pretty extensive list of rare kits. Sadly, also a bit of an eye opener for me since what I originally thought was rare in my collection is simply... so so and possibly even common.

That said, I think I have six kits which some here would agree are rare...

Tamiya Repsol Ford Escort RS Cosworth - still unbuilt, original issue, open box - also have the Michelin Pilot version of this, but it's already built up. That cosi is even more rare, I believe.
Tamiya Peugeot 405T16GR 1989 Paris/Dakar Rally Winner - still sealed, original issue
Italeri Mercedes Benz 300SL Roadster - this one's rarity is even questionable by me, but nevertheless, open box never built.
Tamiya Team/CLK Sportswear Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR - full view (seems like full view kits are pretty rare)
Tamiya Cabin R90 V Nissan - The R89 version with the Nissan/Calsonic livery seems more common, but the Cabin version seems rare to me.
Entex Lancia Stratos HF - unbuilt, open box, original issue.
