Re: Recall 1997-2003 Pontiac Grand Prix

On my way home from work about 2 months ago I saw an identical green GP GTP like mine burning to the ground and then about a month later I got the recall notice LOL.
If I just had my engine replaced with a used one would the gaskets normally have been changed that needed to be in the recall?
I dont know much about engines so I ask.

Rocket, many garages would change the V/cover gaskets when doing a swap, but not all. I would find out where the work was done, and ask them.

The recall involves GM removing the engine beauty cover and not replacing it. Will it not fit back on with the new valve cover that they installed?

They do this because the beauty cover is flammable and can fuel the fire, same thing with the Oil fill tube.

Its not flammable. Its GM throwing guesses at the wall to see what sticks. As has been mentioned many believe the valve cover gaskets are not even the cause of the fires. It was fuel injector o-ring leaks.
