Best Sleeper In STOCK Form
I have read alot of threads asking "What is the best sleeper car?". And havent come across one yet that hasnt been answered with, "This is the best sleeper car but you need these mods?"
Well I want opinions on the best sleeper car in stock form, that can be purchased for less than 20k right now. New or used it doesnt matter! Whats everyones opinion? |

Re: Best Sleeper In STOCK Form

Re: Best Sleeper In STOCK Form
i would like to think that my car is a pretty good sleeper...i've caught a few LS1s off guard as well as an STi and Evo 8...they take me on the launch, but i catch up fast
My reasoning is that most people assume that my car is going to be just another ricer w/ a fartcan...they never expect 320+whp...lol

Re: Best Sleeper In STOCK Form
I don't like the term sleeper. Its pretty difficult to keep someone who is knowledgeable about cars from figuring out if a car is modded or not.
Also, one man's sleeper is another man's obvious performance car. The less knowledgeable V6 Mustang owner might be completely suprised when he gets beaten by a VW GTI or a tuned Civic, thus making the GTI or the Civic a sleeper in his eyes, while a Ferrari owner might be completely caught be suprise by a Buick GNX, making it a good sleeper as well. Because of this, there is no perfect or best "sleeper" car. Just about any car can be a sleeper if you want. Just find something that isn't commonly used. By now most of us have seen the videos of the Dodge Caravan beating up Camaros, or the VW Golf (not a GTI) putting down a thousand horsepower. Finally, whats the point of a sleeper anyways? Does it really matter if you catch someone by suprise? Just because a Corvette owner doesn't expect a BMW M5 to keep up with it doesn't make the Corvette any more or less of a car. At a drag strip or a track, people expect competition from anything and everything, so it won't really help to have a less common car. My advise is that if you want a high performance car, ignore the looks and find something that is easily capable of big numbers. Who cares if people expect a WRX or a 240sx to be modified? If they are actually racing they will get the same result.

Re: Best Sleeper In STOCK Form
You do have a good point. I didnt intend my car to be a "sleeper" but i haven't done anything to actively advertise that i have stuff done to the car....tell me what you would think...

I say either a Mercury Marauder (2003) or a Ford Taurus SHO, since they are based off of cars that have a "bland" reputation.

A GMC Typhoon or Cyclone gets my vote, hardly anyone really knows about them and even if they do they usually don't know how fast they are. 0-60 around 6 seconds, quartermile in less than 14 seconds. looks like an old POS blazer to me

Subaru forester XT. 0-60 in 5.3 seconds 1/4 in 14 seconds. who'd ever expect a forester to be that quick?
