peugeot rear suspension
I was looking an old 306 peugeot rear suspension and I can't say what kind of suspension it is. Small family/compact cars usualy have torsion beam semi-independant rear suspension (except VAG concer now use multilink), but this isn't it.
Torsion beam or twisted beam axle is a unit that holds both rear wheels and is attached to the frame via some sort of joint so it can swings up or down. Then spring and dumper on both side connect axle to a frame also via joints, so during movement angle can be changed. When you hit one wheel bump torsion axle is twisted. But at peugeot 305 also 206, the axel is solid and it is connected stiffly to the frame via rubber pads and it has trailing arms that hold the wheels. Arms are connected to the axle so that they can swing up or down, when axle doesn't twist like on torsion beam. then dumpers are attached one one side to the trailing arm and on the another to the trailing arm, I believe that spring is torsion kind and is pleaced inside the axle. This is the picture, but here the owner made some modifications, because stock doesn't have that small coil springs, next to the dumper. |

Re: peugeot rear suspension
It's a torsion beam, just a different design. That unit with the spring appears to be a brake compensator setup for a lowered suspension.
