(The legend that is) The Ford RS 1800

Hi all

I am a returnee to Rally car modelling after many years on aircraft. I have been informed by my local model shop the my Italieri Fiat 131 Abarth Rallye has arrived to keep my recently completed Stratos company.

I think I read that the Fiat is an Esci moulding, is this true and if it is can we expect an Italieri remould of the RS1800? Do we need to start a lobby group?

In a similar vain has there ever been a 1/24 MkI RS 1800?

Many of them. Esci made an Eaton Yale version, Rothmans version and British Airways version. They made others I believe but I don't remember off the top of my head.

Best news is that Revell are re-releasing the RS1800 this year!! Not sure on the color scheme, I think it is the Eaton Yale version, I would imagine there will be a re-release of aftermarket decals too however.

This is the best news I had last year!!

Technoman, you are talking about the Mk.2 Escort. He asked about the Mk.1.

I believe there are some resin kits of the Mk.1.
But I don't know wich versions.

Re: (The legend that is) The Ford RS 1800

Welcome to AF Dadio406 , always nice to have some more rally modellers around. I too have never seen or heard of an injection moulded Escort Mk 1. Narton made a resin kit a couple of years back but from all reports it was not that flash. After all this time I wonder if we will ever see a plastic kit of one. I'd say Hasegawa are our best hope, but they seem to have gone quiet after their excellent 037 and Stratos.

Yes the 131 is a reissue of an older mold (Esci they tell me, not that I'd know). But it appears to be a very tidy effort, with Cartograf decals to boot! Bring on the Mk 2 resissue.

Looking forward to the Mk2 re-release. Built a few of them in the past (including a Cossack car on these forums somewhere). Nice enough kit and, until Renaissance release their 1/24 resin Rothmans car, the only decent rally Mk2 out there.

Its only real problems are mould quality (the last one I did was a Flash-fest), the tyres are terrible (sort of concave plasticky slicks) and the front track looks far too narrow if built straight out of the box. Oh and the rear suspension is all wrong for a proper Group4 car.

A bit of work though and it comes out beautifully, and there have been several decal sets out there in the past so hopefully there'll be re-releases there too.

Thanks for info.

I looked on the Revell Germany website and they list an RS1800 for issue
in the first quarter of this year. I note comments on accuracy front track etc so i better get the plasticard, strip and rod out. The RS is still campaigned in these parts at rally schools and by a few of the less well healed (but hugely entertaining) privateers. Local knowledge of the Ulster lanes (we rally on tarmac in Ireland) and a 25 year old RS1800 has humbled many a hi tech supercar.

Thanks once again
