960 noise

I just purchased a 1996 960, it has 178k on it.. WIll this be a good car? Also when starting it I hear some sort of motor running like an air pump or load leveler I have heard in other cars, by the end of my street I hear this hum slow to silent. I am having the cam shaft sensor in the A bank replaced since it keeps shutting the car down around 2500 Rpms, we are also having the T belt replaced and water pump. Would it also be wise to run an engine de-gunker prior to an oil change? If anyone could address these issues it would be appreciated!

Re: 960 noise

The motor you hear could be the secondary air injection pump under the battery area. They sometimes get water in them and make noise.

Good thing you are doing the timing belt now. Do it every 70,000 miles and change the oil regularly (3,000 - 7,500 miles) and the car should last you many trouble free miles.
