Suitability of a fibre washer for sump plug/gasket?

I changed the oil for the first time since acquiring my Toyota Camry. The sump plug did not have a washer or gasket.
I found a fibre one the correct size in my stock so I fitted that.
Question:
Is this type of washer suitable for this application?
I know that formerly, I had an aluminium one on the plug in another vehicle.

Are you sure it is not part of the drain plug, look closely. A softer type washer is required here.

I'm not sure what year your Camry is, but many newer cars have rubber seals incorporated in to the head of the drain plug. No thread tape or separate washer is required.

Was the drain plug leaking before you removed it? If not, then there's a good chance you don't need to add a washer.

There was no washer on the plug when I removed it. As I said in my opening post, I put the fibre washer on it when I replaced it.

Not to my knowledge.
Thanks for the replies.

I will buy an aluminium one next opportunity and fit that next oil change.
In the meantime, I will check the torque on the plug a couple of times to make sure the washer is not shrinking and loosening the plug. I have had an experience of that happening with a purchased nylon washer.
