1989 240 stalls after driving about a mile. The idle is not steady, it fluctuates up and down. After cools it starts up but repeats problem.

One more thing, check your catalytic convertor. start the car and go to the tailpipe and get a idea on you exhaust flow. Pull your dipstick and smell the oil on it, if it smells real gassy or strong like exhaust. Then you have a a exhaust problem.

Re: 89 240 stalls
Good advice from magoogle...add to that, possible fuel pressure regulator. To trouble shoot, make sure both fuel pumps are ok.(start with fuses first, then see if they are putting out proper pressure to the injectors) If your filter is not new, this could also cause low pressure, and is the least expensive to change. Good luck.
