Beware of Revell AG's new VW GTI kits!

I'm not sure how widespread the problem is, but Revell AG's new VW GTI and Cabriolet kits have hit the US hobby shops.

I bought a GTI on Saturday and a friend did as well, the only 2 in the store. After returning home we both found our kits had the bagged components for the Cabriolet kit instead of the GTI. There are a lot of different parts, from seats, steering wheel, dash, door panels, wheels, taillight panel, bumpers. Seems the kits have two major bags of parts, one with common engine/mechanical/chassis parts, the other bag w/either GTI or Cabrio-specific parts.

Turns out we are not alone, I know of another kit from Tower Hobbies arriving with Cabriolet parts (and no tires).

These are fantastic kits, if you buy one, check it out immediately to make sure you got the right parts. I'm sure Revell may end up flooded with requests for new parts, so supply might be an issue for a short while. For all I know, the same number of Cabriolet kits probably have GTI parts...therefore the wrong parts, and no uptop, no top boot, etc.

I'm not surprised, given Revell's all to often quality issues, like the too-tight packaging on Revell's USA release of the Ferrari California that caused squashed A-pillars.

.
I found the tires, they must of fell out of the box when I was pulling the bags out and I did not notice that they did, and found them awhile a later.

Good that you are giving everyone a heads up.

I am going to suggest that if you do get a kit that has the wrong parts and are in the USA to contact Revell AG, Revell US is going to make you jump through hoops, they wanted me to send them the UPC from the box, and they canceled my parts request.

I contacted Revell AG and after sending them some photos, they understood what I was talking about and are sending out the the replacement parts.

Re: Beware of Revell AG's new VW GTI kits!

I got my kit from a hobby shop, they did some checking and it seems to be a fairly widespread problem that has cropped up with these kits. I'll be getting replacement parts via the hobby shop.

I was planning on getting all 3 of the releases. Hopefully I'll have the correct parts to make at least one:/
