Unexplained tire wear

My rear tires keep wearing on the outside I put tires on the back every 3 months. I was told to replace my wheel bearings so I did it didn't fix the problem. The tech at the tire shop in town said to take it too muffler man and have them do an alignment. I called for a price and they said it cannot be aligned because it's front wheel drive and it's the rear end I'm having problems with. What else can cause the tires to wear so fast.

Re: Unexplained tire wear

Saying the rear of a FWD can't be aligned is asinine at best. I've had a 4 wheel alignment done on my Grand Prix, and though I have never had it done at a shop I know the rear of my FWD Stealth can be aligned.

Now there are RWD vehicles that can't have the rear aligned due to a solid rear axle

If you look into the design of the van rear suspension you wil see a solid axle, it is possible minor camber changes can be accomplished using specially designed shims.

Re: Unexplained tire wear

As Max stated, the rear of you van can be adjusted with shims, however, if you wear tires out every three months, there is a bigger problem then the shims will correct. You need to have the alignment checked. Take it to a GOOD shop and have the suspension inspected for wear and get the alignment checked. Even if they cannot make adjustments, they can take readings.
