wondering about headlights...
this is just a thought in the back of my head but does anyone know the easiest way to put a kill switch on the headlights? suprisingly i have found there are quite a few times that it would come in handy at night dont ask...haha Im wondering if it would be possible to just put a switch on the sensor so i dont have to wire into the actual headlights? any ideas?

Re: wondering about headlights...
With a proper wiring diagram you can access a point in the harness under the dash to tap into.

However, here is a link that may help to disable DRL and the auto headlight system. There is a procedure for 99 - 00 Grand Ams which may be similar to the Alero. http://www.lightsout.org/disable.html On an Alero, the body control module (BCM) is located under the passenger side of the dashboard.

Re: wondering about headlights...
Lightsout.org is a great place to start.
Though I havent been there in some time(since I diasbled mine), I thought thier was an Alero section but I didnt see it. If you do this, make sure you DISCONNECT the battery or you might smoke the Bcm. I would recommend that you remove your glovebox and the under dash panels. The BCM is a black box about 1" thick and 3-4" long. It will have 3 connectors.. 1 pink and two gray. Look and see if your Alero is the same color. May be some one else can verify these wires are the same color on the 99-00 alero's. I'll post the disable here if allowed!

Re: wondering about headlights...
The proceedure I hav is for the 99-00 GA which came from Lightsout.org.
The new model of Ponticas /Olds are much trickier to disable. Some require a resister to be installed, or a relay what a PITA ! If I post the Disable for the Grand Am I'll post it in the Non performance GA section. So it doesnt confuse anyone.

Re: wondering about headlights...
If it's just for certain times... nothing constant, why not just pull the Ebrake up 1 click. not enough to engage the pads, but on my Grand AM it did turn off the DRL's regardless if I was in gear driving or not.
Seems alot easier than F'n with the wireing. |

Re: wondering about headlights...
i tried the e brake before and that doesnt work for mine. its a 99 if that tells anyone anything. ill check out the links and your post on the GA section.
ill be on vacation for the next week or so but if ill keep you updated once i come back or something. thanx for the input. if you have anymore ideas let me know ok...after looking at the lightsout site it says to disable the alc(im assuming thats the light sensor) cut the two wires and loop them together. if i want it to work on a switch would i just have to find which one of these wires is hot and only cut that one and then wire in the switch? is it that easy or am i missing something?? Re: wondering about headlights...
Ya alero99, The sensor for the ALC is in the defrost vent. Though when you try and remove this vent it will probly break.
Heres a link for the Disable, it has a wiring diagram posted also. I dont this up a few days ago, has several pixs!! http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=595762 BTW I would NOT put it on a switch. When, and if, you flip the switch , you take a chance in toasting the BCM. I hav heard guys done it and it worked fine(with the car off) but just one time, and it could short it out.
