97 camshaft position sensor
I have been looking online already where it is but cant see to match what the words say. The chiltons book has a picture which doesnt seem to be even close to my car.I cant locate it.
I believe I might have found something which looks similar to the sensor, but it is under a lot of wirings and I need to remove them. Am I looking in the right direction or I am way off? I am attaching some pictures with under hood images. Can you please pinpoint it? Another thing. If I just remove the sensor, not the whole assembly, do I need any realignment? Sable 97 , DOH, which I believe is single right? Thanks a lot. |

Re: 97 camshaft position sensor
the sensor is the wires you speak of.back side of engine where the
distributor would go. Sable 97 , DOH, which I believe is single right? your missing the 4th letter ie dohv/dohc either way d = dual, overhead valve or cam depending on the 4th letter now what are you doing did you get a dtc?? If I just remove the sensor, not the whole assembly, do I need any realignment? if your replacing the sensor no alignment, just bolted in when you turn engine over the syncronizer rotates, you can verify this usually its sycro not rotating & needs replacing(this needs to be aligned basiclly its like the old distributor set(needs to be lined up w/#1

Re: 97 camshaft position sensor
Ups, my car is DOHV.
Regardingthe video, its about windstar 99, mine is sable. How can you tell they have the same engine or circuitry, or location of components other than extremely long years with hands on? I havent gotten any DTC yet. So I need to unplug the first spark plug, rotate the engine till I feel the cylinder is up and than I can screw back the sensor? Thank you. |

Re: 97 camshaft position sensor
taunop,its the same set up,basicly a how to,location,etc.
like i said, like the old dist set up.it has the oil pump drive look at it this way the syncro takes the place of dist. bring up #1 compression stroke & install you will need a tool to position sycro. to #1 & r&r is not as easy as video shows. boy he got it in/out quick!!!!i guess after you do a few its easier

Re: 97 camshaft position sensor
I removed the sensor and found out that the magnet had broken the enclosure and had bent the metal sheet that it senses( Syncronizer ? ). So I will have to remove the whole assembly.
The synchronizer costs 80$ + $30 for the sensor and its gettingreally expensive. Can I just straighten the sheet by pliers. It is beneted only a little on a corner. Will it work? Quote:

Re: 97 camshaft position sensor
inafogg, Scrapper, anyone, correct me if I am wrong please. The location of the DOHV enginec, camshaft position sensor in the front of the engine by the cams (according to ford sites) and the OHV engine have the sensor and sycronizer in the back of engine like a distributor??? I know my 98 WIndstar 3.0 sensor is in the back like the video.
taunop, look at this ebay item number 310297594067. It is a dorman camshaft position sensor and sycronizer for $32 shipped. Also go to this link and enter your vin number and look up part: http://www.fordparts.com/Landing/Motorcraft.aspx |

Thanks a lot tempfix. I just bought the sensor and was charged $30+. My sensor happened to be just under a big bundle of electrical wirings on the block engine and the spark plug cables. |

Re: 97 camshaft position sensor
taunop,if you dont feel comfortable doing repairs,its about 1 1/2 - 2 hrs labor.
so a rep shop labor bill wont be that bad.if you already have the parts ask if they would install your parts. Good luck BTW the new sycro should come with a new sensor.
