Re: motor
well its natural for any motor to move some...especially an FE block which i guess is what you have since its in the Galaxie section, maybe a 6cyl, but it'll move some too they're just old motors.
If your motor is moving a lot, check to make sure your motor mounts are still good. If that's not the problem just check all the nuts and bolts in your engine, your headers will come loose every once in a while |

Yes it sounds like you got a broken motor mount...
of course you might just have a big ol' cam , but seriously it sounds like a motor mount so i'd check them but i'd get it lifted at a shop it's too much of a risk to get under a 3900 pound car with just a jackstand on a 40 year old car even though i prefer to be a shadetree mechanic i wouldn't do that |

Re: motor
Cars do not have motors they have engines a motor runs on electrical current and an engine runs on combustion

Re: motor
In the vernacular, "motor" is quite popular. You're correct, though. A "motor" converts electrical energy to motion through magnetics. An "engine" converts heat energy to motion. But Ford calls their performance branch "Motorsports" so it MUST be okay... (:-
As for the shaking, assuming all the general tune-up parts (cap, rotor, wires, plugs, etc.) have been checked, I would look at the valves. Older FEs are notorious for burning exhaust valves. They WILL shake as describeed when that happens. Do a compression test, "dry" first, "wet" second. I suspect you'll find at least one cylinder with zero or close to it. Jim Jim |

Please do not resurrect ancient threads. They are kept for reference only; usually its pointless to answer them because the issue at hand has usually resolved itself. It's best to start a new thread if you wish to re-start an old discussion on a subject. Furthermore, regular AF users find resurrected ancient threads to be annoying. For example, MrPbody has just used his valuable time and vast, encyclopedic knowledge of all things automotive to answer a question that is more than three years old!! Trust me, he will be pissed when he finds out. Run while you still can. Last edited by MagicRat; 11-13-2008 at 06:41 PM. |

Well, most of us think we are mechanics. What is the problem you are having? BTW, for best results, start a new thread in this section for your question. |
