McLaren F1-GTR "Gulf" LM'96, 1:24

McLaren F1 is one of my the most lovely cars. And now my dream has come true. Simultaneously with creation of Stratos Zero I have decided to start to assemble this kit. I bought this in september,2007 from www.1999.co.jp for 18,750 yen (approximately 175$).

Before to assemble it, I wish to copy a bodyshell to make in future the road version. But at first I will make some works on it. All pillars have been bent, and I have corrected they by a lighter flame heating and then has puttied by polyester putty.

Looking forward to seeing how this one turns out. I think this may well be my favorite livery of all F1 GTRs.

Looking forward to following this

Lovely subject but you don't get much kit for your buck

This is a nice one!
I recently got the '95 Gulf car ( i like that version of the Gulf livery better, along with the yellow and green Harrod's car ) with open(ing ) doors ..... but in 1:43 :-) I'll follow your build with interest!

The only thing I hate about these kits are the chassis. The body has great detail, but the chassis looks like a brick. Looks good so far, keep up the good work

S27 gets a lot from you buck though considering they got the mold from Modelers...or either just flat out copied it.

Nope, not the Renaissance....Provence Moulage.
That was less than half the price of the Renaissance and it will only be a fraction of the trouble:-) I have my second Renaissance kit in the works ( a 935/77....it's....somewhere ) and i don't have the mental strength yet to burden myself with another one. Beautiful PE and turned bits....but too often resin parts from hell! Pity!

Re: McLaren F1-GTR "Gulf" LM'96, 1:24 Studio27

I built 2 of these kits, both had one major problem that I will point out so that you can try to fix before its too late.

The kits I bought were white resin, I don't know if it shrinks more than the gray resin but the windows did not fit. I had to cut them apart and glue the everloving crap out of them to get them to mount in the proper location. The "A" pillar is extremely difficult because the interior side is rounded, not flat.

The other problem was test fitting all along, everything was fine, but when everything was ready to screw the chassis to the body, something was hitting keeping me from getting them into the proper location. I still don't know what the problem was, but it could have been from the windows, in that my solution was bad.

Now that I think about it, the wheels are in the wrong place as well, they look too small and the ride height is off so move the mounting point of the front axle to try making it less of an eyesore.

Re: McLaren F1-GTR "Gulf" LM'96, 1:24 Studio27

Thank you, grundski! I already know all of these problems and more. First of all, it is not pleasant to me wrong dimensions and inaccuracy & asymmetrical form of a bodyshell . For example, the wheel base is shorter more than 3 mm. I already have started to think about creation of a new body by using a 3D model and CNC machine.
But for now I continue to work on this.
I finished the roof...

...and opened some holes.

Re: McLaren F1-GTR "Gulf" LM'96, 1:24 Studio27

All the same I have decided to open doors. I will show how I did it.
The beginning was unsuccessful. I sawed it by a fret saw.

Then I have decided to make it in another way, more accurately.

Now I have four parts instead of one .
