Question Didn't see Country Squire So I picked Club Wagon

I restored a 1989 Ford Country Squire to near show room condition.I blew a front brake line and took care of that..
My problem is that when the car is parked, the tail lights go on.Tail lights only. All oter lights,4 ways, brakes, turns are fine.
I have to pull the clamps off the battery so I don't have to keep jump starting it.At times I can insert the key and turn it on and off and they stay off for a few hours.
Any help is very much appreciatted.
Thank you

Are you sure it is the tail lights and not the brake lights? Sometimes the wires get crossed and the brighter brake filament is lit for tail lights and vice versa. So then you have two problems. The brake light switch on the brake pedal arm is probably your other problem. The switch itself could be bad or it could be out of position and not closing fully.

Yes,
I rapped on the front and rear bumpers, the frame from front to back and I can't make them go off. When the tail lights go on,all I do is put in the key, turn it on but not start, the lights go off and will come back on in a half hour or almost a full day.
All lights work fine when driving and side marker lights also come on.
When their on I step on the brake and I see them get very bright so that tells me it's the tail lights staying on and i;m at a total loss at this point.
I replaced the turn and 4 way flashers.
Been a mechanic for 30+ years but I think this is the one job that gives me a feeling i'm not going to be able to fix.
Thanks for responding

Hi 65 Comet,
Well I went with a new brake switch and still have the problem.
For now I gave up because my brain needs a rest.
Many thanks for responding.
I will try and see what I can do Monday and I will post the results
Have a nice weekend
