Towing 67 Pontiac Bonneville

Greetings,

I have a few important questions that I need advice on and I thank you in advance.

My Bonneville needs to be transported because I've relocated. I've gotten a heap of quotes from various auto transporters but pricing and reputation is a major factor.

I believe if I tow it myself I would certainly have ease of mind.

The Bonneville is topped off with gas and I don't believe it would be safe to perform a 24 hour travel with that much fuel in the tank. Would you ladies and gentlemen agree?

I would like to remove 95% of the fuel and I don't plan on going it the old-fashioned way; mouth-to-garden hose method. I've been racking my brain on a more convenient way since the tank is so low to the ground and fuel entry point is at the rear. I've been looking at the fluid pumps and syphon systems but having difficulty choosing. I'm open to any cost effective suggestions.

Also, do you think it would be safe to use a U-Haul auto transport trailer for the Bonneville. I've researched the size, weight and wheel base and it appears to be doable. The Bonneville's weight is at 4115 lb. I would be towing it with a later model Chevy Suburban.

The plan is to take my time while in tow and travel on lower grade roads with fewer inclines and declines.

Please inform me if I'm missing or overlooking anything.

Any siphon set up commonly used for marine apps. should do. Make sure the rented trailer is large enough and in good shape, that is of course a heavy car, the Sub will be good to go for the tow.

Although piece of mind is priceless attempted this same feat and burned out the transmission on the car I was towing. Apparently I had to disconnect the transmission on the Lincoln I was towed. My advise would be to give the auto transport a try. I've used a company called American auto transport move they have a rate calculator on there web site for quick quotes and the prices are reasonable once you take all the factors of doing it yourself.
