Smile Dash board symbols

This may come across a bit blonde, but I was lucky enough to get a car from my boyfriend for xmas, however, both of us know very little about cars and there are a couple of symbols on the dash board I am unsure about, and was hoping someone could help me. (I'm afraid there was no book that came with the car to describe what it all means - its second hand).
The first i've seen is something that looks like a square object with and orange light behind it. It had a few gadgets sticking out of the sides and in the middle there is a symbol that looks very similar to the letter K, it flickers up every now and then.
The other one is a gage on the left, and i'm thinking it has something to do with water, theres a vertical line with a couple of smaller horizontal lines going through it, and a couple of wiggly lines below it.
Sorry if I cannot explain them very well!
If anyone could help me, i'd be very grateful!!!
