Re: Recap of the English F1 fleet - Take 2...

Did #069 come delivered with black wheels?

If it didn't the first job for me would be taking them back to the standard alloy colour.

No, it wasn't even delivered originally with black paint on the body. Black wheels are a new addition within the past decade, after the High Downforce Kit was removed, which also was not original to the car.

Re: Recap of the English F1 fleet - Take 2...

according to the McLaren F1 history chart, chassis 069 was the 60th road car built. It was the second of 6 built in 1998 (the final year of production). And was originally delivered in Mercedes Brilliant Silver.

It is interesting looking at the chart, McLaren's formula 1 team didn't start it's partnership with Mercedes until 1995. Up to that point all the silver cars were magnesium silver (and some other darker silvers). No mention of Mercedes in any of the colors. Starting in 1996 Mercedes Brilliant Silver was added to the color pallet, and was used several times after it's first use on chassis number 049. I wonder how BMW felt about the use of Mercedes colors, blatantly called out Mercedes colors, on a BMW powered car...

An interesting pic. I think this is the first time I recall seeing this photo from 1999.

Re: Recap of the English F1 fleet - Take 2...

Seeing as it's at a public event and been spotted over the past couple of weeks, I can now say that #005 has been expatriated back to the UK

Re: Recap of the English F1 fleet - Take 2...

The first indication I witnessed of #005's transportation from Brunei was from the Instagram user "lamalastair". He posted a shot of #005 at an airport in China:

https://www.instagram.com/p/-eXSeTrw...by=lamalastair

I recently saw a good-quality shot on flickr of the car with the "early xj220-style" mirrors on the public road with the registration "L664 MEP" and figured it was probably 005 being used on the road which was pretty cool

Hi- Res link: https://www.flickr.com/photos/reeceg...-Dpif4Y-EjJ3sL

Sometime after on Facebook "Freedom Logistics" on their FB page posted that "We recently handled the import of a 1995 McLaren F1 by air freight. $11,000,000 insured value, Hong Kong to London"

Here is their page:

The car is in Bolesworth Cheshire for the 2016 Carfest North festival for the public to see and hopefully get some exposure to the public and perhaps professional photographers. I do like the look of the black rims, which makes it look like a #069 twin, but the silver rims look equally elegant in my opinion. I've heard rumors that Chris Evans could possibly be the owner of the car due to his connection with Carfest and #005's surroundings.

Is anyone planning to go to Carfest?

Re: Recap of the English F1 fleet - Take 2...

Additionally, there was some interesting pictures to show you guys of George Harrison's #025. A car that's rarely seen by the public. The pictures come from "Alastair Ladd Photography" which show #025 at Silverstone in 1996. Facebook is ranked #3 on Alexa's top 500 sites and I figure it's probably a good search engine to find cool Mclaren content opinion

In the picture below you can see the plate "M7 AUM" which confirms its #025 in its "Dark Purple Pearl" paint

Re: Recap of the English F1 fleet - Take 2...

As always with things like this on #005, there is a big back story........

I won't say too much as myself and Erik promised the guy most closely involved in this back in late October / early November that we wouldn't divulge information as requested out of courtesy, but I'm pleased the new owner has it out and about for others to finally see it

Re: Recap of the English F1 fleet - Take 2...

Oulton Park is about half an hour away, if I'd known about this I'd definitely have gotten a ticket.

Shit.

Does this mean anything for the other cars in Brunei?

Are the rumors that Chris Evans bought this true? How man F1s are for sure still in Brunei?
