Re: The ultimate project: 1/12 Tamiya McLaren MP 4/6
As promised, here is some more progress on the cockpit
This is a set of RB Motion Rod Ends, which are awesome and used on the model for the rear anti rollbar adjustment. With these great parts the adjuster actually can be used more details, scratchbuild switch (the blue/white one) and round plate from styrene. The switch is not 100% accurate but I'm ok with it. And more PE Nuts, bolts added. I also re-done the seat belt securing hardware but I deleted the pic (stupid... ) I show you this in the next update. Last edited by Decs0105; 05-02-2006 at 11:43 AM. |

Re: The ultimate project: 1/12 Tamiya McLaren MP 4/6
two more pics
PP brass gear shifter used and to simulate the arm rests I used black electronic tape (but it isn't finished yet) and one pic of the seatbelt securing hardware, the perfect parts manual suggests to use 5 nuts as spacer but that looked horrible , so I used a brass tube. I simply cut the tube in 2mm pieces and used them as spacer. Last edited by Decs0105; 05-01-2006 at 10:50 AM. |

I can visualise how mindblowing this thing is going to be when all the components are fitted together. :head explodes:

Interesting, look what it says when the window is minimized in my task bar.
I'm starting to agree with it. The cockpit looks fantastic!

A little late to the party here, anymore updates? This build is unreal.

actually there is a update, I was quite busy the last few weeks and wasn't able to do much but I made some progress. Ok let's start with the "horrible" part, I kinda messed up the engine (to make it not so thrilling, I was able to repair it..). The problem was that I added some superglue where it shouldn't be... After this whole incident I did two weeks almost nothing on the car because I was just p***** off... so it just sat in my showcase like this... but then I started again and sanded the areas where the superglue was and I removed the old paint from the part... and everything repainted...looks almost better than before As you may saw, I also re-done the header flanges. This was something what really bothered me always when I looked at it. I just wanted not to ruin the engine while working on them but after the incident I thought that I wasn't able to do it much worse so I gave it a try and removed the paint with q-tips + tamiya thinner. Then I polished them to a nice shine and sealed them with Testors dullcoat. I am still waiting for a order with some nice Nut and Stud brass pins from RB Motion. After they arrive I will take new pics but you can see the polished headers on the 2 pics above. before here is a little shot of the real car which shows them nicely. (and they don't look so orange like my first try ) so next step for the engine are the rear lower arms which are metal parts As you can see they need some clean up. I used a file for the injection marks and then 600# sandpaper for the "finish" They are already primed and painted with semi gloss black but still drying And I had a closer look at the body which is really nice, fitting is great. the plastic has a really nice shine You can also see the small masking line for the paintjob, I am still not sure how to mask it after cleaning and priming because I guess it won't be visible after... last pic, in scale comparison with a 1/24 Enzo Ok and the last thing is actually not about the model but I am searching for a nice 1/12 showcase which can be placed on a table. It must be big enough to show the car with the cowling off and placed beside the car. And the most important thing it has to be dust free, I thought about building one by myself but I have absolutly no experience with that and I am not sure about the dust free part ... If you have any ideas please let me know. Last edited by Decs0105; 08-18-2006 at 01:47 PM. |

I am running out of adjectives to describe this project. I hope to one day see this thing in person.
