1979 Honda Civic or 1997 Dodge Caravan

I am planning on purchasing one of these two cars. Both are in good working and cosmetic condition. The Honda Civic is selling at $1000, and the Caravan at $500. I am curious to know peoples experience with either car, and which would be cheaper to repair and get replacement parts for. The Civic also gets between 30 and 45 mpg, while the Caravan only gets 20-25 mpg.
