Talking rattle when cornering my GTi

When cornering hard or sharp the STOP warning light on the dash comes on, this is followed by a loudish rattle noise (i think it sounds like something spinning but my mate thinks it sounds like vibrations), if i keep my foot down the noise stays even on the straight and there is loss of power. If i ease off the noise goes then the light goes out. Any ideas?
Cheers, Mark.

I had checked the oil level, but couldn't be bothered to wipe the dipstick and do it properley. Oh well, at least it was a quick fix!!

Cheers!!!
