Honda Unveils 2015 IndyCar Super Speedway Aero Kit

In preparation for the 99th Indianapolis 500, Honda unveiled its newest 2015 IndyCar Super Speedway aerodynamics kit. All Honda-powered IndyCar teams will use this design for any high-speed oval course this race season.

The kit was designed by Honda Performance Development, Honda's racing branch in the U.S. The kit itself includes a host of aerodynamic components ready for install on the Honda-powered Dallara Indy car chassis, which will be implemented to all six of Honda's Indy car teams, with 17 potential Indy 500 entrants.

The speedway kit streamlines the overall aerodynamic package, allowing the Indy car to reach speeds approaching 230 mph. The cars can achieve this incredible speed through the use of homogenized twin-turbocharged V-6 engines pushing out between 600 and 700 hp. We saw a preview of Honda's road course aero package earlier in March, alongside Chevrolet's new IndyCar designs as well, but those are meant to prioritize downforce for cornering grip over ultimate top-speed like this kit.

The kit itself was developed with computer-aided design, computational fluid dynamics, and multiple simulators to eke the most performance out of the aerodynamic package. The use of virtual testing reduced the amount of waste and scrap, and allowed for the individual pieces to be developed without physical creation.

Honda has notched up 10 Indianapolis 500 victories since 2004, and the company hopes this new aerodynamic kit will propel it to its 11th win.

The new Honda IndyCar aerodynamic kit makes its official debut during open testing at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 3rd, with the actual race set for May 24.
