Exclamation COT infractions

Really incredible -- Sonoma -- The two top Hendrick COT cars (Jeff Gordon & Jimmy Johnson) were "garaged" and forced to undergo inspection again for LF fender infractions...

I say go back to factory body panels and this wouldn't be an issue -- if Ford, Chevy, Toyota , and Dodge can't make nice aerodynamic bodies for the street, they shouldn't have their cars on the track on Sunday.

Otherwise, NASCAR should make all the bodies and turn NASCAR into a "spec" class, and take all of the innovation and competition from the sport.

Just a little rant, I'm a Jr. fan, but this seems like a team issue, since Hendrick builds the cars "alike" anyway. I just long for the days in racing where the winner was decided on the track by the cars, drivers and teams, not in the garage area by the sanctioning body.

Re: COT infractions

NASCAR has been doing "cookie cutter" cars for years, there is no way the cars (Dodge, Chevrolet, Ford, and Toyota) look anywhere near like what can be bought off the showroom floor at a local dealer like back in the old days when "What wins on Sunday sellls on Monday" was actually true and the auto industry was totally involved in what cars went out on the tracks, you didn't need to read a sticker to know what it was you could tell by the body.

The "North American Stock Car Auto Racing" association has taken "Stock" out of the equation years ago, don't get me wrong, they make the sport safer (damn I hate Restrictor Plates! Make them run smaller V8's or V6's at the big tracks if they want to slow the cars down!) as the years went by, but the improvements still could of been done to the shells of existing platforms that are available today in a car lot, instead of the upcoming COT that looks exactly the same body wise with no automaker identity other than the applied stickers on it.

Since when has NASCAR ever used a V6? They've used the same size V8 engine for damn near forever now.

I know they have never used nothing but a V8 of the same size for everybody and not a V6.

My point was simply because the teams over the years have gotten big power from the V8, and consequentially the cars are going too fast for NASCAR's liking on the big tracks, instead of putting restrictor plates on the engines to choke the airflow and reduce the power of them, why not either use a smaller displacement V8 or maybe a V6 on those tracks to slow them down and maybe get back the racing where if you had better power than the rest then you ran away from the pack instead of bunching everybody all together and relying on drafting to get to the front, just like back in the day when the car that had the strongest engine running that day eventually wins the race if he doesn't get taken out.

Re: COT infractions

It's a good idea, but we know too well it'll never happen.

Re: COT infractions

The Busch series used to run V6s -- not a bad idea for today since many if not all of the midsize production cars (Camry, Impala, Monte Carlo, Fusion, Intrepid, Charger, etc...) that are "emulated" by NASCAR run V6s now anyway.

Re: COT infractions

Not to mention, all the cars they emulate are four doors. With the exception of the Monte Carlo.

And I think every race car should have a bag of groceries, a baby seat in the back and a old Starbucks cup rolling around under the seat. Just ilke the real cars do.

Re: COT infractions

What ever happened to the rule that in order to race the car, 500 of the model have to made in a 'watered down' version, atleast, to the public?

I'd sure love to see a 850hp Fusion, to asy the least of a Camry
