93 supreme keeps shutting off

I have a 1993 olds cutlass supreme that keeps shutting off when it gets hot. I took it to a mechanic and he thinks it is the shaft control sensor. He calls it the car from h ll. Does anyone know where this is located on the dual overhead cam 3.4? Thanks

If that is the CRANKSHAFT position sensor, it is located on the rear of the engine under the exhaust manifold. It is right in the middle.

Thanks for the reply. Is it hard to reach? Can I get it with the car in the driveway. Thanks for al the help. The mechanic is telling me the car is done. I have 205,000 miles on it and changed the oil and filter every 5,000. I hate to junk it over a sensor.

Re: 93 supreme keeps shutting off

well.....

The overhead cam is harder to get too than the pushrod. But it is NOT impossible. the thing I would be more worried about is if it BREAKS when you are trying to remove it.

The best thing to so is to see if you can feel around for it. Just get on the PASSENGER SIDE, and try to get your arm down, and around the back. In the case of the DOHC, you might be able to get it from under the car. Just jack it up, support it, then try to get your arm between the alt, and tranny.

To be honest, I am rebuilding a twin cam for my 1995 Cutlass Supreme, and I think I would rather just pull the engine to do it.

Kinda hard to see, but on my 1995 twin cam, there are 2 sensors on the back. I circled the CPS. the other one on the right (looking at pic), is the KNOCK sensor.

Check the vacuum line to the MAP sensor and make sure there is no raw fuel in it. If there is then the diaphragm in the fuel pressure regulator is broken. This is a shared vacuum between the both. If that diaphragm is broken the car will run like a dog with two broke legs till its replaced. It's an easy check!
