Question crank angle sensor for 1992 Civic

My 92 civic ran perfectly, never had to turn the key twice to start ever morning UNTIL I took into shop to replace oil pan gasket, drain plug and gasket, valve cover gasket, oil change. They has car for 2 days. The following morning the car was hard to start. Took 5ive long tries... 2nd morning... took longer and the 3rd it would not start at all, but it tried to turn over. I had it towed ($40) back to the shop. They had it for 2 days then told me it was the crank angle sensor. Repair will cost $397. Can you tell me if this sensor could have been broken during the gasket replacements? Should I have gone with my gut feeling 6 months ago to start looking for an Odyssey? Any advice would be appreciated. Happy THanksgiving...

Whats up neutrino, thanks for the recomendation
Now my questions when it did start did it have eratic idle? how did it rev (not getting high output), high idle speed? to give you an idea of why there diagnosing it with this is b/c the crank-angle sensor is a device to tell the engine when to fire the spark plugs. Have you checked the plug connection? Damage may have been done cleaning away all the oil residues, as I asume you had major oil leaks to justify the repairs in the first place. Have you considered a second opinion from a Honda dealer? I would have to take a look at the vehicle to come to a conclusion, such as it was broken during the repair. I'd take it in to a honda/ acura dealership to just have them take a look at it, both dealerships should be able to distiguish how damage was done.
-hope I was of some help
