Unhappy 325i will not engage starter

I changed a bulb in a tail light, now all the lights work except my headlights come on bright automatically when I turn the key except no response from the starter. Battery is good but somehow it is not sending power to the starter. What have I done? What do I do? This is a 1989 325i convertible I have owned for 1 year and put lots of repairs into. My book tells me nothing. Help please! Rich M.

Oh my god! I can't imagine how that could have happened! Before you go digging into that jungle of wires, check the starter. There should be 2 wires that go into the starter. A thin one and a red thick one, unplug the thin one, then plug some spare wire into the prong where you removed the thin wire from, and then ground that wire, the motor should click and crank, if that don't work then touch the "negative" post of the battery with that wire, if the motor don't crank it's broken.

Negatively energized? Or positvely energized?
