Fuel Sender Check Engine Code

Last week the Check Engine Light came on in Mrs. Cusser's 2005 Denali (yes, she does now know that the picture that looks like a submarine is check engine light). I had the code read, and the fault was Fuel Sender Intermittent. The fuel tank gauge read almost empty, so i filled the tank, only took 11 gallons (she primarily uses the Trip A odometer for gas fill up warning). Light remained on, so I disconnected the battery negative cable for 45 minutes, then re-connected it and started up, and light was off.

Problem is, when emissions test is required, any check engine light is grounds for failure, even this, most likely because driver would not know if a second code had been found/occurred.

I sure will not like replacing the fuel pump (134K) and fuel sender just to get a light to stay off for the test, maybe I can clear it again just before the test....

And guess what: my 2004 Nissan Frontier also has the same error code !!!

Re: Fuel Sender Check Engine Code

If you clear it just before the test you will fail as the emissions monitors will be off line till you go thru a prescribed drive cycle to bring them back on line.

Thanks, didn't know that. Is that time in hours/days or number of miles for that drive cycle stuff?

Re: Fuel Sender Check Engine Code

Update: the check engine light has been off for several months now. I didn't do anything.
