Blue Suede Shoe 49 LEDSLED

Just finished shaving it and doing the basic body work. THe carson top needs a bit of fitting. I have already extended the area behind the rear window so I could move the top forward. I have yet to cut and refit the stock window trim , once that is done it will have a more stock split windshield appearance

The Kit is one of the AMT Crusin USA series by George Barris ( 49 Ford ). The Caron top I got at Lakeside Swap from a parts box for like Fifty Cents and I plan to cover it in real fabric. The wheels and tires will be from the 49 Merc in the same series, I willalso be using the 440 cross ram engine from the Merc kit.

Its good to see some lead sleds around here, I'd love to find a '51 Bel Air, or a '49 Ford Merc.

That looks so cool. I can't wait to see some more progress. I just love the old shoebox, man, totally killer style and incredible versatility. Yours looks like it's off to a great start. Is the paint black, and under yellow light, or is it a nice, more complex color? I would love a model painted in the color that it (at least) appears in your pictures.

Re: Blue Suede Shoe 49 LEDSLED

That will be awesome man, blue suede shoe means you'll be painting it blue? If so what type of blue, whatever it is I reckon it'll look great on that 49.

Modgod, a Carson top is an old hot rodder's term for what's basically a fabric hardtop. They're removable like a hardtop, but soft and fabricky like a regular convertible softtop. They're actually pretty common on customs that were made into convertibles that didn't start out as convertibles.

Good Carson tops can be found in kits like AMT's Phantom Vickie '32 Ford.

Here's some sleds with Carson tops.
