Re: Beemax Audi Quattro S1 Walter Rohrl 1985 SanRemo
Little progress with the chassis, I closed the gaps with some styrene between the chassis and the body. I am still wondering, why the model manufactures don't make the chassis extend to the body...
Unfortunately there are not so much references for the underside of this car, I share you all what I've got, although only the first one has a detail which is authentic but doesn't match with the others. |

Terrific work, as usual. Awesome detail on that interior.

Re: Beemax Audi Quattro S1 Walter Rohrl 1985 SanRemo
Little progress on the Audi, I filled some too large panel lines on the front fenders and sideskirts, then resribed them. Some work wad one on the engine protection, scraped heavily the plastic with different blades, painted kevlar / hairspray and white, then scraped back the white paint. Added some pigment / liquid soap / water wash to get some dirt on. The biggest progress was done on the recently received USCP engine. The details of the resin parts are awesome!
Really a worthy investment if someone want to show the legendary five cylinder unit tin the kit. It also includes an updated hood, so no worries about cutting the hood open. With a good paint detailing, you only need to add few screws and wires to make it look close to the original. I added some Archer weldlines to the air tube for some more realism. This resin detail, printed on clear decal film is really handy to represent some extra detailed weldlines all around. I will use some plastic mesh to replace the thick photoetch on the rear fenders. For that I need to drill out the original plastic mesh and thin down to represent only the frame. |

Re: Beemax Audi Quattro S1 Walter Rohrl 1985 SanRemo
I managed to make some progress on the Audi, although I didn't have much time for modeling recently - unfortunately. I painted the yellow HB stripes, and put some decals on the car. The aero flap on the front fender was cut from 0.3 styrene and used some rivets to fix it on the fender - just as the real thing. I also made some work on the engine and engineroom. The USCP engine is really awesome and I only made little changes to it apart from wireing. I made a bit more realistic CAD model of the spring tower and steering wheel and my friend at RESCUE Models printed it for me.I also made some scratchbuild brake cylinders and steering racks to add some more realism to the engine room. The engine itself was enchanched with some screws and wires. Still long way to go though...

Re: Beemax Audi Quattro S1 Walter Rohrl 1985 SanRemo
Dear All, I hope you are all fine during this difficult and critical period. I really hope it will be over soon! I used this time to make some progress on the Audi, nearly finished the engine bay. It was mostly very tidious wiring... Painted the seats and printed some correct decals. It is still long way to go but at least the most difficult part is nearly finished. It is difficult because the lack of reference material from the original car which was scrapped unfortunately.

Re: Beemax Audi Quattro S1 Walter Rohrl 1985 SanRemo
This is the closest original reference photo for the engine from the 1985 1000 Lakes Rally, only one rally for the S1 before the San Remo. I also found a photo from the 1986 Portugal Rally but the springtowers were already the late, covered type.

Re: Beemax Audi Quattro S1 Walter Rohrl 1985 SanRemo
Hello guys, I made a little progress on the engine bay and started the final assembly of the interior. The biggest question was with the spare wheel, I found only one!!! photo from the 1985 Sanremo where it was inside the car - a photo from the tecnical control before the race. All the other photos show no trace of the sparewheel.. I guess, it was to reduce the weight to the minimum and anyway, that times teams had helicopter assistance, constantly flying after the cars. But to animate the the interior, I put the spare anyway. This is how the car looks so far:

Re: Beemax Audi Quattro S1 Walter Rohrl 1985 SanRemo
Little upgrade on the Audi, finally I managed to put the engine and the interior tub on the chassis. The steering wheel was 3D printed by RESCUE Models which is the replica of the original, used by Rohrl on the Rallye San Remo. I also tried the Hasegawa Trytool green window shade which seems to work well on the windshield.
