96 Golf Drivers door wont open

I can unlock the door with the key and the door lock goes up and down, but neither the handle inside or outside will open the door, and yes the door isnt frozen.

Any ideas?????

Re: 96 Golf Drivers door wont open

i have a similar problem, the same thing happens on my 97 golf on the passenger side. also a problem that i think is related is that i can not turn on my alarm from the drivers side. or when it is going off turn the alarm off from the drivers side, does anyone have the same problems, are there any ideas for us??

update

Well, during one of the moments that the door happened to open, I WD-40'd all the openings near the lock with hope that I got the affected part that is sticking or causing the mechanism not to work.

It has been above 0 degrees here for the past few days, hopefully I got the part. Time will tell.

Dugie there is a switch in the door pillar, I'm not sure if it has anything to do it but mine on the drivers door was causing me all kinds of weird seat belt light and buzzer problems. It may also be attached to the alram for all I know.
