1998 Grand Caravan Tach and Speedo Die Intermittantly

My wife has been driving our 98 Dodge Grand Caravan the last couple of days and while she is driving the Tachometer and Speedometer will drop to 0. This does not affect the performance of the engine or anything else. Runs and drives "perfect" (or at least for its age and mileage). The dash seems to "reset" when she parks and turns off the ignition then restarts it.

She is getting frustrated because all of our car issues only happen when she is driving...LOL!

Any help is appreciated!

Re: 1998 Grand Caravan Tach and Speedo Die Intermittantly

Common 3rd generation (96-00)failure. Usually caused by cracked solder joints securing the male connector to the instrument cluster circuit board. Here's the free fix: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GczhHgdUuI4

" only happen when she is driving...LOL!" I hear ya. Fix this and you'll be that magical hero again. In the mean time tell her to smack the dash above the instrument cluster. That will sometimes bring the cluster back to life.

Re: 1998 Grand Caravan Tach and Speedo Die Intermittantly

Thanks RIP! I showed my wife the posts and she laughed. Then we watched the video so she could "help" me fix it... We'll see if that happens, LOL!!

The "Man Van" willl have to take the back burner, as our other vehicle a 01 GMC Yukon XL has Engine AND ABS codes popping up.... (P0171, P0174, P0300, C0267 & C0268). It has only done this a couple of times this week so if it gets any worse I will fix it.

Thanks again!!!
