The Old Nurburgring, or Nordschleife, is where they used to hold the F1 races, but it was deemed too dangerous for F1 following a huge accident in 1976 when Niki Lauda almost died. now F1 uses a short section of the Nurburgring and the rest of the road is open to car maniacs and enthusiasts.. its THE ultimate test for a car, no question about it... all the manufacturers, most notably Porsche and Audi test their cars at the 'ring.. the very fastest cars have lapped it in under 8mins... the record holder i believe, is a Gemballa 600bhp porsche turbo that lapped it in a staggering 7mins 30s or so.... Gt3 is 7.56, you can find sites where they list times achieved for many sports cars

check out the clips from the famous video of the RUF CTR, aka Yellow Bird lapping the 'ring at incredible pace. this is the stuff of legends

http://www.sjrixon.clara.net/

they still hold 24h races at the 'ring, unless im very much mistaken... anyone is allowed to enter.

care!
if you donßt know the track it can be deadly!!!!!
you should first make a training there for one or 2 days.. not cheap but good!

the track is the hardest in the world!
and people race there between 50 and 1000 ps so the speeds are quite different

Take it easy... Its a very long circuit and arduous circuit. They say it takes 50 laps to get familiar with the circuit and another 50 to "know" it. With 10 minute laps, and you'll be doing well to go that quick, that adds up to a lot of hours.... there are a lot of horrible accidents at the 'ring. enjoy it, but dont go mental!

So you want to become a race driver? it's a little late to start a new career isnt it? j/k

yea there are many accidents...
you drive 2 rounds and then the track is closed for half an hour cause of accidents

50 rounds to get familar... lets say 100 and 50 to "know it" lets say 200

believe me its so much fun but hard!

Its the same site as i posted before:

http://www.sjrixon.clara.net/

Stefan Roser, the RUF test driver takes the 470bhp narrow 911 bodied RUF CTR Yellow Bird around the Nurburgring. It's all sideways action. Awesome.

This is the famous Yellow Bird:

I strongly recommend you check out RUF's website, the cars are phenomenal. Keep an eye out for the CTR2 Sport, my personal favourite. The new R Turbo is an animal as well, a 213mph animal to be precise.
