If you wre in the Buffalo Ny area you could get a 351 built very nicely at under 3 grand at My shop...maybe even stroke it depending on parts

Re: Engines?

Your kidding right the only thing that can fit in late sixtes 65-66 are 289's you might be able to pigion toe a 302 in but that's all your getting. Now 67-68 had 390's that might suit your wife it's got nice power and pretty good gas milage. My personal fav from my sn would be a 351C H/O or CJ those are some hard finds but the 2 barrel verson should be easy to find. Why wizard makes a 351 block that makes 425 horse.....I think it's like 4000 dollars but hey it's up to you.

Re: Engines?

I don;t know where this pebody guy gets his info, maybe reading to many books!
A 289/302 will run forever!!
I;ve pulled em apart with oil in them that wouldn;t drain because its as thick, dirty as mud!!
Both Chevy & Ford make the best small blocks worldwide.
And as for crate engines being no good.
Don;t tell Chev performance or Ford SVO who have sold more crate engines in 2006-2007 than in the history of the automobile.
I to like to build my own, but,
my last 342 was a Ford crate with an Oliver crank, Keith Black pistons, aires rods & all the other good stuff.
(By the way pebody, Oliver makes cranks for Nascar, Keith Black is a famous racer/builder)
Do not know that both Chevey & Ford have a serpeate crate engine build line?
I watched 4 Chevey guys hand build a sm. block chevy from start to finish on their crate line, or maybe they did it because they knew we were coming?
Then went back to building them in a dirty back room at Chevy!!!
The only difference between your local shop building your engine & ordering a crate from the big 3, is ,maybe you can save $$ by ordering a crate.
But, i still like ordering every part myself & supporting the local build shop, but don;t knock the quality of guys who invented the performance V-8.
remember the Boss 429, 302, 351C, Chevy 409, 427, etc, etc, etc
