Somewhere deep in the back of my garage lies an edition of (I think) R&T from '62, which from memory features what they claimed to be the 1st road-test of that car, was it originally a 221? (not sure). Anyway, then it was unpainted and as I recall R&T were blown away by the performance. Perhaps this mag is in your town library?

In a local road-test of a later model, which featured those neat little vents next to the front nerf bars, a small boy asked the tester why those vents were meshed, to which he replied that it was "to keep out slow birds and low-flying Cessnas..!"

It started with a 221, but it was booted out once a 260 was aqThe 221 was based on the Fairlane 221, but bigger is better, so no cobra was ever finished with a 221 (it was replaced by a 260 in the first car).

Re: Plans for Shelby Forum...

Chris, This is mustangwizard. We have been building a 70 Shelby GT500 (CLONE) convert
(Superstreet) for the last 4 years. We Nascar tubed the front end . Running a Rod & Custom
Mustang2 R&P.steering setup. The Shelby front end
has been made into a 1 piece ,fliptop front end, like a Cobra Daytona. We bought ol Shel's Alum. 427 stroker motor with a 2x4 intake so we could run a
Pro Charger supercharger running 12 pounds of boost. We have a custon blower hat with a 4"intake made from a Cobra oval air cleaner with 2-660's inside.
The rear was tubbed as mush as we could and with Myier fender flares, we are running 15.5"x 15"
Hoosier Pro-streets on the Currie 9"rear end which
was shortened 4" running a 40 Spline ,Detroit locker,
3,25 R&P with a full coil-over, 36" ladder bar set up
to let the girl hook up. The batteries ,32 Gal. ATI fuel cell, CSI fuel pump & filter are in the trunk!
Gas filler was moved from the stock location to the top of the pass. fender with a locking ,flip top gas lid.
What we need is a 427 Pulley setup for our car as ProCharger doesn.t make a blower setup for a 427 at all. We were thinking if we could buy the Pulley setup Shelby is putting on the GT500E . We need it for a blower,Power steering, Alt., & AIR CONDITIONING. We will use our blower hat !
PLEASE HELP us out so we can finilly get the girl on the road and at some Shelby meets!
Thanks again,
John & Becky Davis

Re: Plans for Shelby Forum...

Just so you guys know Carroll Shelby modified several turbo Dodge cars in the mid to late 80's. All the cars were modified in his Whitier California Plant, Shelby American Inc. Keep in mind Carroll owns all of the fallowing cars numbered 1 except the 88 CSXT.
The first was the 1986 Dodge Omni GLHS (Goes Like Hell Some more) Carroll has mentioned his #1 car with 492 horse is his favorite car! 500 made.
2. 1987 Shelby Charger GLHS 1,000 made.
3. 1987 Shelby Shadow CSX 750 made.
4. 1987 Shelby Lancer 800 made.
5. 1988 Shelby Shadow CSXT (Thrifty car rental) 1,000 made.
6. 1989 Shelby Dakota 1,500 made.
7. 1989 Shelby Shadow CSX-VNT 500 made.

Carroll also put his name on some 30K+ Shelby Chargers but none were converted by him or his company during the 80's. He also put his name on 15,000 1987 and 1988 Daytona Shelby Z's and several thousand Daytona Shelbys during 89-91. He also had his name on a few thousand 88 and 89 Lancer Shelby's.

Very recently Carroll showed up to a SEMA event in his #1 89 CSX-VNT!!!

Re: Plans for Shelby Forum...

I have #46 Dodge Shadow Shelby, I understand there were 500 made. I am wanting to restore the vehicle, and am searching to find out what all was stock on that car. I am the second owner of this vehicle, and unfortunately it is in sad shape. The body is in fair condition, interior is poor. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Plans for Shelby Forum...

I am the proud owner of a "91" Dodge Daytona Shelby Turbo, it's 99% complete with the last 1% being a Hood with the "Turbo Bulge/Bubble" unfortunatley it has to be year specific any leads on locating one would be very apreciated.

thanks GP

Re: Plans for Shelby Forum...

Hello everyone. My name is Billy and I am the president of the Steel City Chapter based out of southwestern PA. I stumbled upon this site as I was researching my newly purchased 89 CSX #414 and came upon this page. In case you all do not know, there is another additional resource on the web based on these vehicles --- www.turbo-mopar.com -- I spend most of my time there but will frequent this newly found board as well!

I am the owner of a 1985 Plymouth Turismo (4th place at SDAC-15), my newly aquired 1989 Shelby CSX #414, and a 1990 Dodge Daytona Shelby converted to t2.

www.teamshelby.cjb.net for pics. and writeups!

Talk to you all soon!

Just to make some corrections so no one is misinformed...

The 1989 Shelby Dakota doesn't have a 1500 production number it is 1475.
Carroll allowed Dodge to put his name on the Charger and Daytona, and Lancer. In 1990 Shelby was to release a 16V DOHC turbo intercooled CSX, sadly this never happened. There is one CSX that is truely one of a kind.

The Carroll Shelby 65th Birthday Car. This one is the mother of all Shelby Dodge's. 1 of 1, unique to why it was built and not another like it. This car is currently in the Houston, Texas area owned by James and Cindy owners of FWDPerformance.com who specialize in the performance support that this niche market needs. I own 1987 Shelby CSX #674 and im one of three Admins at www.turbododge.com same sign in and all. Ill be around im sure
