Re: Bad news from Ford

It doesn't sound like this plan is too new, so I wouldn't worry about the GT or GT500 being in danger of non-production, plus they admitted that they are selling the most F-150's and Mustangs. The Windsor plant is more than 50 years old, and has been re-tooled for 5.4 production. They can expand the Romeo plant to handle that.

Remember when DAP closed down? Didn't slow Mustang production any....

Re: Bad news from Ford

GT will be gone very soon. From its debut it has always had a limited life expectancy. With the Wixom Assembly plant closing it does mean the end. What would Ford do hand production over to Saleen? Remember what happened initially with the GT thanks to Saleen not that Roush did any better of a job on the engine.

Mazda is doing much better, so what about the RX8, look how many 3's and 6's are on the road. That alone is something that would not have been seen 5 years ago. The Mazdaspeed 6 isn't really competition for the EVO or the STI anyway. Its got a turbo and AWD but thats the only similarities. Its really in the same market as the Subaru Legacy.

With the price tag the RX8 has it’s not good to have them clogging the lots the way they are. The same thing is happening with them that happened with the 03/04 Cobra when they were sitting on lots for sometimes months at a time. In the end they were being sold at or below what dealers said was cost. The RX8 is starting to hurt their bottom line and is the reason that they waited till Jan. 5th to announce there would be a 06 model. The Mazdaspeed 6 is in direct competition with the EVO and WRX when you consider most of them sold don't go to buyers who price track performance but rather those looking for something like that for a daily driver. Granted the EVO and WRX seem to be targeted toward buyers that seem to be looking for a car that is good at the track but they really aren’t. You do know that in the past both Mitsubishi and Subaru have voided warranties on cars that have been to the track even though they are totally stock down to the tires. To make it worse there were even reports that the manufacturers had people taking pictures of the cars on the track and voided warranties based on license plates in those pictures.

Re: Bad news from Ford

Finally there is a smart move however this should have been policy all along. After all their automotive operations lost $3.9 billion last year and Ford Credit is the only branch keeping them afloat.

Quote:
The company said Ford Chairman and CEO Bill Ford will receive no salary, bonus, or long-term compensation this year unless the automaker reaches sustained profitability.

Re: Bad news from Ford

Hi All,
I've been reading your posts for a while but I wanted to chime in on this one.
I've wanted a convertible Mustang since I was a teenager, yet I was never
in a position to buy one......until now.
But I'm a family guy now and I need more than a quick ride....and this leads
me to think that one of the biggest culprits for Ford's weak sales is an
underestimated design flaw: lack of expertly fusing ergonomics, practicality
& safety with style. Can't be done? Check out the MB SLK 350!
Ford doesn't think ergonomics supersedes style. I think they're wrong.
How do we let them know this? Not buying their products is one way....
unfortunately for 30,000 working families.
How I wish there was a pop-up safety system in the Mustang vert.,
or an interior designed for techies as well as speed demons.
Or maybe tightening up the dimensions for easier parking?
Silly? Maybe to you guys...but not to some.
Sadly, Ford forgot "Build it and they will come" instead relying on "build an
OK machine and some will come".
hmmmph
