Suggestions for Repsol Red and Orange..
Hi Guys,
Anyone have any suggestions for a good match in paint, for the red and orange of Repsol sponsored cars..?? I'm thinking to build my '93 Carlos Sainz Lancia Delta Integrale, but would rather paint the red and orange instead of using the decals. I have access to Mr Color paints, Zero paints, RAL, Tamiya TS etc, so anything will be helpful..

Re: Suggestions for Repsol Red and Orange..
Hi Steve!
I `m not sure if the cars were painted with fluorescent paints like the MotoGP bikes or if they were painted in "regular" non-fluo paints. In this picture for instance..... It seems that "regular" non-fluo paints were used. And to me a good match for these would be just to use Tamiya X-6 for the orange and X-7 for the red. Using a white basecoat. And maybe with a tiny amount of yellow added to the orange. Hope this points you in the right direction. Emil

Re: Suggestions for Repsol Red and Orange..
Yes, I have wondered about the paints being fluorescent or not..?? It seems some were brighter than others. Checked my Tamiya Escort Cosworth kit and the decals look quite fluorescent. They recommend TS-36 Fluorescent Red for the bumper too. I'm going off of the Shunko Decals I have for the Lancia Delta and they don't appear fluorescent, just a normal red and orange. But the orange looks a little on the pale side to my eyes when I compare it to pictures of the real car, it's a tricky one for sure...

If you look at these pictures youīll see what I mean. The glare of the fluo-paint is quite evident. But then I also found this clip on youtube that feature an Escort with the Red-yellow livery. And it also has a quite noticeable glare. Maybe itīs because of the nineties videocamera technology? I donīt know.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5GXorBmtFcY Like you said....Tricky! As a side note..... This guy over at the motorcycle section has pretty much nailed the fluo-colors using Mr. Color lacquers for Fluorescent Red and Yellow. Re: Suggestions for Repsol Red and Orange..
That motorcycle looks fantastic..!! I think the Ford Escort is definitely fluorescent. The Shunko decals for the Escort show mixes of fluorescent Mr Color paints for the body colours. The blue stripe is a bit green/blue and is also metallic on the Escort. Not sure though with the Lancia Delta. The majority of photo's I've seen look like a bright orange and red. But some do look to have a slight nod towards fluorescent paint. The more I look at the Shunko decals for the Lancia, the more I think they're incorrect colour wise for the orange. It just looks too pale and washed out..
Thanks for all your help so far Emil, you've been great..!! That link to the motorcycle build has really helped a lot.

Re: Suggestions for Repsol Red and Orange..
The problem with those photos are they are of cars today, not back in 1993 or in the case of the Escort 1996/97. Are they the original paint or are they redone?

The Lancia however seems to have been painted with regular paints. http://youtu.be/CuaBHNKycvI This (period) video show the Lancias of theī93 Tour de Corse. Judging from the footage there is no "glare" from the orange on the REPSOL liveried cars. So I think a regular orange like the Tamiya X-6 or similar would be OK to use. (BTW Notice how fast they shift those cars! Itīs a H patternībox! The throw must be super short in order to get shifts like that. Mindblowing skills! ) Quote:
Best Regards! Emil
