no no no what i MEANT was that if Ferrari built a smaller "Cheaper" car like Aston is building the mini DB7 than some people might think they are cheap and need money quick. BUT ON THE OTHER HAND if they can SELL the F60/enzo than they are in good buisness because they will make millions.
And the cheaper aston is gonna depreciate the name because more people can have it. the same would happen with ferrari..selling a cheaper car depreciates the name... do you get it ??? if not ill just stop talking

Yes, I see now. I definately agree that the cheaper Aston will bring down the marque's prestige. I also agree the same would happen to Ferrari. But I don't think they will make too much money on the F60\Enzo. I believe it is there to show that they can compete with the best in the world. I estimate that they will make 100K on each one, so thats only 35 million. Over 3 years. They spent well over 250 million on F1 this year.

This is kind of out of nowhere, but doesn't Fiat own Maserati now? Maybe the new Spyder will help out Fiat's problems a little.

Fiat Spa owns Fiat, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Maserati. They also own banks, "public labours", services etc. The car branch represents about 50% of their turnover.
Don't expect that Fiat will be saved by the Maserati Spyder or the future Quattroporte ! Except Alfa Romeo (12%), Lancia (5%) and Fiat (83%) are not in a good mood. Alfa sells more and more with especially their 147 and 156. For Lancia, there is the new Ypsilon which will restart this make. And, very important for Fiat Spa, the Fiat Gingo and Idea, two small mini vans (as the Ford Fusion or the future Renault Clio Van III) which will be sold at a very low price (from 8 500 €/ US$9 000). These cars can save the group Fiat. But Maserati and Ferrari don't sell enough and don't make enough profits for the entire group.

Besides the small volume of Ferrari/Maserati production, Fiat SpA only owns a fraction of Ferrari SpA. After selling parts last year, Fiat SpA owns about 60% of Ferrari. Fiat SpA still owns 80% of Fiat Auto (Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia). GM owns the other 20% of Fiat Auto.

GM-Fiat stock swap:
GM now owns 20% of Fiat Auto Fiat owns 5.9% of GM and becomes the second largest shareholder in that corporation Implications for GM: Save costs by sharing platforms Combined effort in emerging markets and sharing of factories around the world Access to premium brands such as Maserati and Ferrari which are owned by Fiat Access to advanced technologies developed by Fiat and its subsidiaries Stronger presence in niche markets in Europe with Alfa Romeo (sporty) and Lancia (luxury) so gm kinda already has ties with ferrari but they can't make any decisions for them and if gm bought ferrari gm would prob just leave it alone or improve it by showing the ls6 engines or other stuff that ferrari could improve on |

Re: Ferrari up for sale!
GM owns 11% of Fiat Spa. They sold shares not long time ago.
The problem of GM buying Fiat is that Fiat platforms which offer a good handling for example (mainly of course for Alfa and Lancia, Ferrari and Maserati will keep alone) could become less efficient if the costs are too reducted : look at Saab 9-3 which offers the platform of the Vectra ! And worse, the famous V6 Alfa Romeo will dissapear and be replaced by a V6 Opel !!!!!!!! It's uncredible. Imagine a V6 Opel on a BMW or a Porsche !

First of all, GM owns 11% of Fiat Auto, so, not of Ferrari Group (owned by Fiat Spa. !) and not 20%. Fiat Spa. owns 5,9% of GM.
Then, Ferrari and Maserati are very profitable and don't need more money, or something else, they do have excellent engeneers particularly.

GM originally purchased 20% of Fiat SpA. The holdings are now approximately 10% of Fiat SpA.
Ferrari SpA has nothing to do with this deal. |
