Leaky Trunk
well its good to see that everyone else is as unhappy as i am with their mystique. it runs pretty well, just everything else sucks. having that said here is my problem.
my trunk lid started leaking. after hard rains when i open the trunk, a stream of water just flows from the lid into my trunk. i have a spoiler on the back and im pretty sure thats where the water is leaking in from, but not positive. i have also noticed two puddles of water on either side of the trunk frame and it seems like the trunk lid has two holes on either side where this water might be able to make its way into the lid. just wondered if any of you guys had this problem? thanks. |

yeah, it happens to me all the time and makes me so mad. You would think they would test something like that. Oh well.

Re: Leaky Trunk
My wife has a 2000 mystique and the trunk leaks on it too. I think it is from running in between
the truck lid and where the plastic light bar join together. |

Mine leaked with only 12000 miles on it - Dealer replaced the whole back plastic peace with the licence plate holder and the gasket. might just need a gasket.

I have a 95 that did the same thing. When you opened the trunk lid, water would come in where the acces door is to change your reverse lights. I got sick of water running down my back so I fixed it. What you have to do is remove the plastic light section on your truck. It is difficult to remove for fear of breaking it in two pieces. You need to first remove all the nuts from the inside of the trunk lid. When everything is removed then you start pulling... very easy. What you'll find when you get the lights assembly off is a black foam gasket. This is what is leaking. What I did with mine when I got it off was to take a tube of silicone and apply a thick bead on the gasket. Then just to make sure, I applied another bead of silicone down the top back side of the light assembly. Basically behind the chrome strip. Then just re-installed the light. Hasen't leaked again since. That was 3 years ago I did it.

Re: Leaky Trunk
usually the trunk leaks because the rubber peice above the tail light falls out.

Re: Leaky Trunk
I did all that stuff and my trunk still leaked. The problem was a vent type thing on both sides of the trunk. I had to remove the inner trunk pieces on the sides. The vents lead into the rear quarter panel area, in between the inner and outer panels. You can't reach it from outside the trunk. I had to do all the work from inside the trunk. The plastic vents have gaskets that leak. I had to hold the vent from inside the trunk, but the vent is outside the trunk compartment. I removed all the old torn up gasket and caulked the heck out of it,, not worrying about where all the caulking went. It was only leaking when being driven and the rear wheels are throwing water up into the wheel wells.
