Re: Welcome to all Noobs, Post it Here
Definatly a noob. Live in SE Connecticut (near casino's) Bought a 2001 Maxima SE (for wife) 1.5 years ago. No mods. Loved it until the dreaded CEL started coming on about every 2 months. 65K on it. 1st time was covered under Cal. emissions warranty. 2nd time is now O2 sensor stuff. Trying desprately to fix without putting stealership on retainer. And provide some feedback with experience I've had.

CEL light
My mom's has a 2001 Maxima se. She had the same problem. But it only came on when she got gas from an Upstate NY gas station. But when she gets gas in New Jersey no problem. She replaced O2 first. But eventually had to replace a cat (under warranty). The MTBE in the gas they use in upstate NY is not good for our cars complex system. I know they use more in the winter also. I think they put the same stuff in CT gas also. It's posted right on the pump and how much of it they use.

Re: Welcome to all Noobs, Post it Here
I'm a big noob to the forum, but I have owned a 91 Maxima back in the day. First car I ever owned. If some idot lady hadn't rear-ended me and totalled the car, I might still be drivin it! But anyway, I'm looking to buy a 2001 right now. I think the forum is great, and I'll be back for many repair quesitons. I don't think I could be qualified as a weekend mechanic, not quite that good. But I can do the regular jobs, brakes, filters, stuff like that. I'm looking to expand my capabilities though! I would love to be able to do all or at least most preventative maintenance jobs on my own.
Anyway, thanks for the welcome, and nice to meet yall.

Wow is this thread old.
Well, in any case, welcome paqman and VQ356sp. You should post pics of your rides if you got 'em.

Re: Welcome to all Noobs, Post it Here
W00T! Noobie here, bought my 01' Maxima 5 Speed (only 32,000 miles on it!) back in the summer and have been looking for the best mods. I'm still in high school, so I'm still kinda limited on budget, just kinda looking for the necessity mods before I start putting any bells and whistles on it.
Heh. This car is pretty fast for being bone stock. I recently just destroyed a new 06' GTi 2.0T, I was absolutly amazed. I think the new cars are just getting heavier and heavier everyday! |

Street light fighter
I got a 95' Maxima from my mom that had been sitting for about a year. So far I have replaced the rear rotors and calipers, installed a new CV axle, and replaced the rear struts. I have no garage so I do everything under a street light after work. I lent the car to my woman for a week right after the CV replacement. When she brought it back it was making a crazy buzzing noise and the steering fluid was bubbling while the car was running. I topped off the fluid and it was fine for a few days. Now it is making noise again and acting very strange. I think it is leaking very slowly. It has been 10-20 below this week and when i start the car it won't steer at all for about a min. and then it beomes free it steers fine but makes a hell of a noise. Please tell me I can just put in a bottle of leak stop or something.
