I got to 137 mph in my auto GT with three guys in it.
Oh an once I passed a Trooper doing 134 mph in a 55 zone and he didnt stop me...scariest 5 minutes of my life.

i dunno what yer talkin about, about the 7th gen celica's being governed because everyone else i know says they arent, and i say they arent because i've done past 135 on a straight away, 140 to be exact with more room to go.

Looks like most people have gotten them to 130-140. But realistically do you ever need to go faster? I mean if we're running out of room, maybe we should be more worried about the time it takes to reach 140 mph?
Oh and does anyone notice, that the Celica seems to excellerate faster at high speeds the other cars of equal or higher performance? I mean at 60 mph and up, nothing can really out acclerate me on the highway.

that is because of the car's powerband.
the new celicas are freeway flyers. |

Well I can get a '80 ST up to 123 in 4th gear at about 5,300rpm (still have 5th gear left). So I'm sure a 7th gen can do 155-160 if you gave it enough room.
Skylines own? What does a skyline own. $80,000 and only runs mid 13s stock in the 1/4. I'd rather buy a $50k Corvette Z06 and run 12.2's in the 1/4 stock. my 2 cents |

some people like to be original, instead of being another tom dick or harry with a chevy 350.
besides, a skyline may cost $80k(for an r34, r32's and r33's are cheaper and just as capable of high power) but for about $5k on top of the $80k, you get a car that is VERY VERY rare(unlike corvettes) excelent handling, no traction problems, and easily has approx. 600hp. yeah the z06 can get that power easily, but it sure as hell wont be cheap. sure, z06's now run high 12's from the factory, but there isnt much left that you can do to the engine. the CR is on the high side and the fuel maps are already aggressive. basic bolt ons wont do much considering all the parts on the car are performance oriented. FI is all that is left to do to the car |

what kind of gears do you have in your celi. 123 in 4th!!! the 80-81 celicas are only geared to do a little over 115. and there arodynamics are poor so at those speeds its wobbly. with the tall ass tires i put on mine i hit 132 but that was in 5th at a little over 4800 but the arodynamics wouldnt allow any more. what kind of mods do you have done to your 22R? did you put a rear end from an auto and a W58 in it. thats the only way i can believe 123 in 4th at 5300rpms. |

Being stationed in Germany, I take the Autobahn to work everyday. I've had my GTS up to 145.

i have gotten my 1980 celica convertable up to 135, i think, the car i was following said he hit 128, and my speedo only goes to 85, and i caught up to him, it only took me 28 miles to hit it, and i still managed 15mpg durning my high speed run

I got my 4th gen up to 125 mph easily, and it was still pulling away to go faster. I just lost my bottle because the tires aren't the best and I once had a two tires blow out on my while doing a 110. I count myself lucky to have walked away from that one, the car was written off, it rolled.
I have spent a few thousand on modding the engine though (that's Australian dollers).
