1997 sentra no start spark plug tubes full of oil
Ok drove my car home parked it for about a week, came back to start it nothing, it turns over, I can hear the fuel pump. Now about 2yrs ago I was coming to a stop sign and the car stalled out, cranked it over and it started but a little rough, Got home and figured had to be ignition related, so started checking wires to see if one had came loose ect. Well I started pulling them out and one wire came out all wet with oil hmm turns out the gasket on top some sort of seal had failed and oil was filling up the tube till I guess it shorted the plug out. So new plug and wireset and thought I did a good job of putting new seals in to keep out. NOT
So this time I pull out spark plug wires and one is full about 1/2 way up one is barely wet the other 2 are about a inch up the wire plug. Ok been here and don't that so new wire set and new plugs, crank and nothing, double checked my plug wire firing order its all good, dist cap is good no cracks, even pulled that other 2 screws to check that wheel on Dist for oil another website mentioned it but it was bone dry and the square holes looked fine. Checked all fuses all good. Not sure what else to check I don't think I'm getting spark but I havnt checked it. but if I'm not getting spark where else in the chain due I look. Car has about 322,000 on it and still getting 36mpg its a manuel |

crank engine over and make sure the rotor on distributor is turning. have seen a few of the high mileage sentra have a timing chain failure. hopefully its not that but easy enough to check

Re: 1997 sentra no start spark plug tubes full of oil
distributor is turn, I have spark, now I might have got firing order mixed up and I cant find and clear shot on the wire order from the distributor
If I'm standing on the driver side looking at distributor at 2 oclock is number 1 which is closest to the distributor, the at 5 oclock is number 2 with is 2nd closest to distrib, at 11 oclock is number 3 and number 4 is 7 oclock is this right?? |

Re: 1997 sentra no start spark plug tubes full of oil
this should be your firing order if you have the 1.6

Re: 1997 sentra no start spark plug tubes full of oil
if that doesnt work you should have a mark or line on the dist cap that marks #1 plug wire position, you can then follow the 1-3-4-2 clockwise rotation firing order to install the wires

Re: 1997 sentra no start spark plug tubes full of oil
tried that no go,, I guess I'm confused due to the dist is sideways and I'm trying to flip the diagram over and see if I'm getting them in the right order but I guess not

Re: 1997 sentra no start spark plug tubes full of oil
if it is 1.6 your cap should look like this and if you look closely you can see the plug wires numbers written on the cap. #1 plug is the one closest to the end of engine with the fan belts

Re: 1997 sentra no start spark plug tubes full of oil
I put the plug wires right on the numbers their on the cap it sorted wanted to start but wouldn't, but its the closest its been,,, I can hear the fuel pump and its running for like 4 seconds maybe 5 seconds. Is it like the GM systems where it has to see a certain fuel pressure before it will let the injectors open?? I checked my spark I due have it thoughts??

Re: 1997 sentra no start spark plug tubes full of oil
if the check engine light is on while it sort of starts it may have a code stored of what the ecu sees wrong with the engine otherwise you may have to check the systems one at a time. you do have the large hose from air cleaner to intake still hooked up don't you, if the maf in the tube doesn't see air flow it wont run right

Re: 1997 sentra no start spark plug tubes full of oil
once I crank it the engine light goes out oilpressure ight goes out, I guess its possible I got it flooded so give it break for now, I did check all my plugs for cracks last time I had one that was cracked so I checked them all, I due have a innova 3160d scanner and it shows no stored codes so, I'm stumped and tired. the car was running when I parked it I had to go to a funeral and it sat for oh about 8 days ,, so it has to be something simple that I'm not seeing, most of the time it is right.
