1996 Geo Prizm lsi will not start

350,000 miles, burns a little oil. Died on me coming home from work. Will not start, clicks but will not turn over. Battery will not charge and cannot jump. Besides replacing the battery, could starter be bad? I know next step is engine rebuild or junk it. Any suggestions???

Can it be jumped? If so will it run?

Check the alternator.

Would not jump. Would not start. Just a click when you turn the switch. Took starter off and had tested. Replacing starter. If that solves the problem, buying new battery. It's a three year battery that's five years old with a lot of nighttime driving.
