Unhappy loud noise

I've got a 94 Eagle Vision TSI 3.5 and while driving along, does not matter what speed, last few times I've been going straight and I hear a loud clunk under my feet. The tranny was completely rebuilt appro 20k ago, the CV's I just changed, engine mounts just replaced also. I did notice the speedodometer go from 20 to 0 and back in a split second but the car did not stop, momentum keeps it going. Somebody smarter than me, please advise.

Re: loud noise

check your subframe bolts make sure they're really tight, also check your bolts that hold the tranny to the motor. Another area you can check is your bolts that hold the torque converter to the driveplate, make sure they're tight and not wobbling to the point that it could cause the torque converter to unseat itself from the hub.

Thanks for the reply. I checked all of the above and everything seemed quite tight. I guess I'm going to check the oil from the transaxle now and see if I find any evidence of damage, like pieces of metal etc.
