Is it even worth it?

Was talking with my mechanic... the suspension yea i had to do, i need new tires badly, but ive got 154,4** miles on it, engine and trans both... is it really worth it? in his words "one day you're gonna go to start it and the engine's gonan blow, then you gotta do the motor" so basically save up for that or a new car (cough cough z28), jus get the new tires and jus drive it till it goes basically... i dunno i see what hes saying yet at the same time i wanna pour money into it. is it worth it?

Re: Is it even worth it?

if you take good care of it, dont hot rod it, keep it serviced, it will last you, my 91 rs had 245,000 on a
3.1 liter, i know that mileage is scary, but it was well maintained by its original owner, also by me, but when it started 210,000 gas mileage went down hill, tranny weakend, it lost power, but it was a good car, only thing i had to do to it was a fuel pump and an alternator, i bought it with 100,000 and traded it when she hit almost 246,000 miles. if you have a good job keep the red sixer, and save for that z28. then trade her in.

Re: Is it even worth it?

If you wanna go fast I say definately save up for something with a V8.

Sure you can get power out of a V6 or just swap in an 8 cylinder, but the Z28s also look different and handle better and its alot of work to upgrade everything when you could just sell yours and buy a nice one.

Re: Is it even worth it?

well I doubt i would be able to sell this for too much. Sure I put the z28 springs and shocks, but its a 6er with a leaking rear main seal and a lot of miles on it

yea since i bought it. mechanic said if they opened it up to fix, it would start a whole mess of problems with the trans, etc because of the miles

what a crock! They do not have to open anything up to change it. all they do is pull the tranny. I am not sure about the V6, but th V8 takes a whopping 5 minutes to change the seal once the tranny is out of the way.

Any parts that you buy for the car (except engine parts obviously) can be swapped to any 4th gen car, so if you upgrade to a Z28 all you have to do is swap the parts!

you can save up and buy a tranny and engine combo w/ low miles on it, lt1 or ls1. after you buy that, i've heard of people swapping things like that in for 400-800. but that's just because i personally, could never get rid of my camaro...
but until you save up to do something like that, i recommend you get the problems fixed, and take care of your car, regular maintanence goes a long way. i know a guy who has an iroc-z that didn't give out on him until 312,000. you can always get your engine to last a long time.

Re: Is it even worth it?

you are in a bit of bind here, now arent ya. my advice would be to save up for a different vehicle. i dont know what the current mechanical status of your car is, but if it is in good shape keep it in good shape with regular maintainance and lots of love. she'll last you a while longer if you take care of her. when you have enough money, trader it in and get what you want. also, if it craps out down the road, and you have saved up enough money, you can always just buy a engine/tranny and put in new stuff and its like having a brand new car...
