stock for stock, the blaster is on the same level as a 300ex- they are about the same speed, both are air cooled. Also, just to warn you, that air cooled two stroke wont take much heat. my friend's 98 blaster has gone through 3 pistons since he bought it two years ago. But they are still fun as hell to ride

Re: yamaha blaster? quick or not.

any banshee without a pipe is crap for accleration cause you have to keep the revs up and ya got to ride the clutch to do it. but if their built their awesome and i just rode a blaster with a dg pipe and it was pretty quick.

Talking Re: Re: yamaha blaster? quick or not.

Just bought a blaster two weeks ago. All I can say is fun fun fun. Smoked a yamaha 125 dirt bike topped it at close to 60mph and pulls wheelies in 1st and 2nd without even pulling up. I am 5'8 180lbs and the thing just pulls. Tons and tons of mods for this quad. I'm already ready to pipe and jet the thing which can be done for about $370 doing it myself. Price is great for the power u get. Sure a raptor could beat it in a race but with the darn thing being so light you can maneuver through trails and turns with ease. My advice buy it 2 stroke or not the thing is a toy which already means maintinence anyways!

yamaha blaster

i think the blaster is pretty quick for the price also. i bought a 2004 blaster and banshee. bought the blaster for my girl, and the banshee for me. but my friends seem to have more fun riding the blaster than she does. so depending on your size, and "need for speed", the blaster is a good machine for anyone around 200lbs to have fun on.i THINK my blaster does in the high 50 mph range maybe even 60mph. but the banshee is what you might go for if you have the urge to fly. i ride with some guys who have 400ex's and we are even off the line until i hit 4th and its over, ( i fly by ). and mine are both stock..atm...

Re: yamaha blaster? quick or not.

the 400ex is like a caddilac... it has sweet suspension from the factory, its the only quad ive ever ridden that likes to take corners, until i rode the 450r. the 400ex is perfect accept for the power issue, it has none.
then there is the 450r, very very nice quad. way more power than the 400ex but not enough for my riding tastes.
my friend has an 87 banshee... let me tell you. 404 big bore kit. weisco pistons, bigger carbs, fmf pipes, the works.... rediculous power. this thing gives my cr500 a run for its money. but it doesnt turn worth a damn.

so if your an ameture id say go with the 400ex, if you wanna race and youve got a little skill, get the 450r, if your all about the power and roosting everything, get the banshee

and as for the 2 stoke/ 4 stroke reliability. neither one isd better than the other. as long as you know how to jet the carbs right and no how to maintain your bike they will last you. look at the factory specs on either type of engine and they both need a rebuild after 30 or so hours
