Question 2000 328Ci or 2001 330Ci?

Hey everyone, I would like some help with purchasing a used BMW. I have 2 in mind, a year 2000 328Ci and a 2001 330Ci but I don't know which one to get. I can afford the 328Ci right now but I'm willing to wait one more year for the 330Ci to depreciate to the price I can afford. The 328Ci I am looking at is Titanium Silver with Black Montana Leather. It has both Sport and Premium packages as well as the Harman Kardon sound system. The 328Ci also has the M-Double Spoke rims which are the ones that come on the 330Ci with sport package. So basically the 328Ci I am looking at is pretty much the same as a 330Ci besides the engine size. So my question is, is the 2001 330Ci worth the wait? If so what are the reasons and major differences between the 2 cars? Furthermore, is the 2000 328Ci more reliable than the 2001 330Ci or vice versa or same? Also, are these cars reliable cuz my mechanic tells me that BMWs are only good when they're still under warranty and they have many electrical problems so he said that when warranty is over your screwed cuz repairs cost an arm and a leg. Is this true?

Well its mainly a question of do you want to wait or not. The 330 is better but i dont know about waiting that long. You could get the 328 and in 1 years time you will be able to make it faster than 330s(if you have money).

If you drive them both there is a big difference--30hp/20+torque extra in 330-- but you should think about a 330i (like mine) cheaper to buy, cheaper to insure, but a little heavier which doesn't help on performance.

According to BMW when i bought my car ( 7/01 ) :

2001 330Ci 0-60: 6.1---1/4 mile: 14.6 manual
2001 330i 0-60: 6.4---1/4 mile: 14.8 manual

These are the numbers the dealership gave me when i was trying to decide whether to save myself $2500 by going with the sedan.

I ended up getting the 330i since all the 330s i see in my area are coupes and i could have (didn't) turn around and put the money i saved into the car and smoked any 330Ci.
But the coupe is just better

The reliability thing i wouldn't think there would be a diff and I really couldn't tell you major differences consiering my old 328 was E36.

Good luck on your 3

328 or 330?

I would recommend that you check out BMW's certified used vehicle program and save some money by buying a 2 or 4 door hardtop 330, which is what I have. It has the sports package as well as the HK sound system, xenon lights, and heated seats. It is an awesome car. and the certified used vehicle warranty covers scheduled maintenance up to 50k miles and warranty to 100k.
